The Norfolk Kipper House was established in 1999 by local fisherman Richard Little and fishmonger, Angela Barrows. The idea was to sell traditional specialist seafood products in Richards Shop, Sheringham, and to supply seafood to local pubs, restaurants and shops.

The main product would always be dressed crabs, as these are synonymous with the North Norfolk Coast. But in addition, Angela wanted to develop a range of traditional teatime fish savouries, such as Kipper Paste, Bloater Paste and Potted Shrimp.

It is an incredible achievement that Richard Little is in his sixth decade of being a Shannock crab fisherman. His boat, the Providence II is on Sheringham slipway and has been the subject of a lot of tourist photographs over the years. In addition, Richard also served as an RNLI lifeboatman. Sheringhams Mo Museum houses the lifeboat that he served on and shows some artefacts from the 19th and 20th century fishing industry in Sheringham which gives an insight into what a dangerous job it is.

The first two years in business were about perfecting the product range, and it seems that peoples tastes do hunger for Great British tradition and flavours that they associate with this region of the country.
